Description
Applies the appropriate diagnostic, procedure and/or evaluation and management codes for assigned areas of coding for the hospital and/or physicians. Uses the coding system corresponding to the assigned area of coding. Reviews physician documentation and gathers all necessary patient and encounter information to complete timely and accurate coding. Participates in validation and quality audits to assure that coding meets regulatory standards.
Hours
Hours are Monday thru Friday from 9am to 5pm. Weekend hours are scheduled as needed for backlog and would be from 8am to 4pm.
Experience
Education: High School graduate or equivalent.
Two (2) years of direct hospital or physician coding experience using ICD-9-CM or equivalent.
CCS, CCS-P or CPS certification is required within 12 months of hire.
Experience: Two (2) years direct coding experience.
Extensive knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and the clinical contents of the medical record is required.
Previous experience with computer coding applications is required.
Advanced knowledge of medical codes involving selection of most accurate and descriptive code using the ICD-9-CM, CPT, HCPCS and HIS coding conventions.
Thorough and accurate data collection and data organization skills are required.
