Nurse-Family Partnership Program
Frequently Asked Questions

How much does the program cost?
The Nurse-Family Partnership program is FREE to all eligible women.

When the nurse visits, what does she help first-time mothers focus on?
The nurse home visits are focused on helping first-time mothers:

  • Have a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby
  • Develop / improve parenting skills
  • Build a strong network of support for herself and her baby
  • Make her home a safe place for her baby to live and play
  • Make linkages/connections for healthcare, childcare, job training and other support services available in their community
  • Find ways to continue her education and develop job skills
  • Set goals for her family’s future and finding ways to help her reach them
  • Improve the economic self-sufficiency of the family

How often will I meet with my nurse?
The nurse will visit every week or two during pregnancy and infancy/toddlerhood and continue once a month for the last three months before the child turns two years old. The nurse and the first-time mother will decide the exact schedule.

Is the program just for mothers or can the baby’s father participate too?

  • Nurse-Family Partnership encourages fathers, family members and even friends to be involved in the visits and learn how they can best give support.
  • We want to help mother and baby have great lives together. We think that involving fathers, other family and friends is very important.
  • Because the mother carries the baby and is the first person to take care of the baby, she is the one who is actually enrolled in the program and the main focus of the nurse’s visits.
  • The first-time mother and the nurse decide who gets involved and is present at the visit.

Who can enroll in the program?
Any woman living in Columbia, Montour, Snyder, Lower Luzerne and Northumberland Counties who is:

  • Pregnant with her first child
  • Less than 28 weeks pregnant
  • Meets income requirements
